Graduate students in our department are supported by:
Fellowships – Opportunities for outstanding students include programs at the EPA and NSF. Generally, prospective or current graduate students apply for fellowships with assistance from their faculty mentor.
Research Assistantships – These typically are supported via competitive grant funds and target research on a specific project. Contact individual faculty regarding the availability of research assistantships.
Teaching Assistantships – Teaching assistantships in introductory biology and more specialized courses are available each fall and spring. Apply by September 1 for spring semester admission and by January 15 for fall semester admission to be considered for teaching assistantships. Please see our Graduate Student Assistantships page for more information.
MAS Bioenergy Scholar Program
The NSF IGERT Program in Multidisciplinary Approaches to Sustainable Bioenergy (MAS BioEnergy) is designed to prepare PhD graduates who are trained as interdisciplinary scientists with a full understanding of the technical challenges facing the emerging bioenergy industry. This is a comprehensive training program that incorporates cross-disciplinary teamwork, courses in multiple disciplines, and research projects that span at least two focus areas. Educational and research opportunities are offered from four focus areas: 1) Crop Sciences and Plant Biotechnology, 2) Biological, Chemical, and Thermal Biomass Conversion, 3) Product Engineering, and 4) Environmental Assessment, Policy, and Economics. Fellowships are available for Fall semester 2011. Applications are sought from all current and prospective graduate students in any areas of science, mathematics, engineering, policy, and economics. Two‐year fellowships include a substantial stipend as well as full coverage of tuition, fees, and health benefits.
